Job Description Job Description Description: Position Summary: We are seeking a highly dedicated and proactive Safety Specialist to ensure robust safety and compliance across all company operations. This pivotal role is responsible for upholding adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations. The incumbent will manage both proactive safety initiatives and reactive incident management. This position is suited for a self-starting individual with exceptional time management skills, capable of independently handling a diverse workload that spans from routine administrative tasks to urgent on-site incident response. The Specialist will be instrumental in the proactive management of accident and incident claims and will develop and implement safety programs designed to foster sustainable, safety-sensitive behaviors. Essential Functions: Evaluates and ensures company-wide compliance with DOT, OSHA, TCEQ, and other local, city, state, and federal regulations. Conducts comprehensive safety and DOT inspections and audits to assess professional compliance with regulations. Leads and conducts thorough incident investigations for all lines of business, including traffic accident, property damage, and injury investigations, to determine root causes and implement effective corrective measures. Maintains and administers all Driver Qualification (DQ) files, ensuring they are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with all regulatory requirements. Compiles and updates all required documentation in company vehicles to maintain DOT, state, and other compliance. Coordinates annual DOT driver compliance evaluations and ensures the company’s DOT compliance is maintained. Assists in the maintenance of current DOT and non-DOT drug screening policies. Develops, prepares, and delivers effective safety training materials for employees across the company. Gathers information and responds to workers' compensation, general liability, and automobile insurance claims. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of independence and manage time effectively to balance multiple priorities. Proficiency in verbal and written communication to facilitate training sessions, lead investigations, and produce professional documentation. Professional experience in a safety-related role, with a strong preference for candidates from waste management, transportation, or similar industrial sectors. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience 5 years’ experience in the sanitation industry, preferred 3 years’ experience as a Safety Specialist, preferred 3 years’ experience maintaining DOT compliance, preferred OSHA Certification, preferred Previous experience utilizing web-based programs and Microsoft Office products, preferred Working Conditions This position will be in non-climate-controlled settings and an office environment with extended periods of sitting, standing and using manual dexterity to operate company vehicles, equipment, and computer-based systems and to conduct inspections and trainings.
