Job Description:
Southwestern University is currently accepting applications for
a Building Automation Systems Technician which is available for
immediate hire. This position monitors, maintains and operates the
Building Automation Systems for the University. This is a
full-time, non-exempt, fully benefited position. Primary duties
include, but are not limited to: Operate the Building Automation
Systems in order to monitor and control facility space temperatures
and make the necessary adjustments to match building requirements.
Respond to occupant complaints concerning space comfort levels in a
timely manner. Note deviations from normal operating conditions and
dispatch maintenance personnel to perform corrective actions.
Adjust, clean, calibrate, repair and replace HVAC system controls
as needed. Install DDC equipment, controls, operators and other
equipment, and program systems to control HVAC and electrical
systems. Analyze buildings and operations to determine the optimum
utilization of HVAC, electrical, lighting and control systems.
Program and schedule HVAC Systems to provide best energy management
while maintaining comfort and IAQ in controlled spaces. Assist in
development of energy tracking to identify energy usage and
savings. Assist in the design and implementation of new control
strategies. Maintain an awareness of educational programs in skill
and knowledge offered by industry and other professional education
programs. Consult with engineers in the planning and development of
construction and renovation of existing plant and related
facilities. Monitor construction work and other contracted projects
to assure work in done in accordance with plans and specifications.
Inspect control installations by contractors to insure compliance
with plans and specifications. Maintain plans, specifications and
O&M manuals for all BAS and Central Plant Equipment. Maintain
log of after hour emergency requests and forward work requests on
to Physical Plant work control station the following work day. Each
month Track building electrical usage. Work any shift or day of the
week that may be required to meet the University---s needs.
Performs other duties as assigned. Position Requirements: High
school diploma or equivalent with continuous technical training in
the areas of HVAC, energy management systems and chiller plant
operations. Minimum of 2 years of experience in trouble shooting,
repairing and programming HVAC controls and EMS Systems. Possess an
in-depth knowledge of DDC controls and energy management systems,
preferably Johnson Controls--- Metasys Building Management System.
Must be able to read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, and
equipment manuals. Ability to comprehend and compile related
technical reports. Possess a working knowledge of power plant
operations. Possess a general operating knowledge of mechanical
equipment, boilers, and air conditioning systems and have the
ability to train staff in these systems. Willingness to comply with
University Safety Program. Possess excellent character traits such
as honesty, dependability, and self motivation. Possess ability to
complete tasks with little supervision. Possess excellent
interaction and communication skills (verbal and written) with the
ability to follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated
professional manner with all internal and external University
constituencies. Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating
priorities, and produce reliable work product. Proven ability to
perform well in stressful situations. Possess a willingness to seek
training to enhance or learn new skills required for the position.
Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial,
and/or personal modes of transportation. Willingness to adhere to
the University---s core values. Have knowledge, understanding, and
acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the
campus and community. Ability to work nights and weekends. Ability
to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.
Possess and maintain a valid Texas driver---s license. Preferred
Position Requirements: 2 years of experience in a central plant
environment and in trouble shooting, repairing and programming HVAC
controls and EMS Systems. Certification as an Electronic or HVAC
Technician. Experience with utilizing software such as Microsoft
