Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

  • Performs manual labor and occasional administrative tasks required to maintain and operate River Ranch County Park and other parks in the Williamson County Parks Department.
  • Assists Park Manager with park operations and maintenance.
  • Periodically assists Park Manager and staff with Park Headquarters operations as needed.
  • Provides quality customer service, and operates computer and other office equipment
  • Duties also include cleaning and maintaining park grounds, restrooms, and other park facilities, repairing park equipment, providing quality customer service.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Performs a variety of tasks at various work sites, including plumbing, painting, mowing, landscaping, clearing brush, cleaning, mowing, irrigation, water lines, maintaining trails, and other minor maintenance.
  • Assists the public in person and over the telephone including answering questions, relaying messages, and transferring calls; occasionally takes reservations, and accepts payment.
  • Periodically issues permits, collects fees and accounts for revenue collected.
  • Accurately handles cash, checks, or credit card payments; verifies credit card through Card Company.
  • Periodically balances cash drawer, prepares deposits of cash received, prepares reports, and forwards to Treasurer Department.
  • Operates a variety of motorized equipment, hand-held tools, POS system, personal computers, and basic office equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains safety standards in shop area and cleans park rest rooms, facilities, and grounds.
  • Assists in the construction and assembly of parks and recreation equipment.
  • Facilitates reservations for camping, pavilion and building usage, as well as special events.
  • Manages efforts of volunteer groups (schedules activities, equipment, materials, keeps records of work performed, etc.).
  • Frequently communicates with the office support staff, other county personnel, and the general public as related to this position.
  • Readily complies with departmental and countywide policies and procedures, and performs related special projects as assigned.
  • The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent sitting, reading, data entry, filing, standing, bending and lifting of up to 80 pounds.
  • Sitting, walking, standing, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, driving, digging with a shovel, operating equipment.
  • Outdoor work with exposure to dust, heat, cold, and noise.
  • Risk factors associated with machinery and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of camp, park, or maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Strong outdoor program and/or maintenance background with skill and ability in one or more of the following: grounds maintenance, outdoor skills and education, search and rescue, basic landscaping, and/or basic plumbing.
  • Ability to follow oral or written instructions, operate common office equipment, operate hand tools and simple machinery.
  • General facility cleaning and maintenance.
  • Safe operation of light and heavy motorized equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong safety awareness.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be mature, dependable, resourceful, and able to work independently and to maintain strict confidentiality. Subject to criminal background check.
  • Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.

EMPLOYMENT TESTING:

  • Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment, and periodic drug testing and criminal background investigations.

IRREGULAR HOURS:

  • Works weekends and holidays.
  • Non-Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; unless employees are designated by Department Heads or employees are in other offices that are open.
