JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to Pretrial Services Manager, responsible for providing support to Associate Judges and preparing all legal documents, and handling of communications associated with magistration. Level I of II of Court Specialists.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

* Assists Associate Judges during Magistration * Prepares legal documents for magistration process, including Personal Recognizance (PR) Bonds, bond conditions, emergency protective orders, warrants and felony court notices * Assists and performs records management procedures implemented and developed by department head * Handles confidential information independently and under the general direction of Associate Judges and in compliance with departmental policies * Ensures proper completion, signature and filing of legal documents * Distributes legal documents to all appropriate courts, County departments and agencies * Responds to contacts, communications and inquiries related to Magistration matters, including from defendants, County and District Courts, County and District Attorney, Justice of the Peace, municipal court, and from out of county and state courts * Gathers information as directed by the Associate Judges * Prioritizes and completes time-sensitive work * Assists with coordination of court dockets and court scheduling * Provides customer service to internal or external customer via email, phone or in person * Attends all meetings and trainings as required * Performs special duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

* Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carrying * Position involves occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objects

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

* Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment * Work is regularly performed in a secured area of the jail * Interaction with persons accused or convicted of crimes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* High school diploma or equivalent * Two (2) years of clerical experience in an office setting * Working knowledge of specific job-related technology

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required within thirty (30) days of employment

* Valid driver's license * Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) certification * Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification * Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Associate Degree in the Criminal Justice field * Prior work experience in a court or legal setting * Experience with Odyssey Navigator * Bilingual (Spanish)
