Registered Nurse (RN) – Outpatient Infusion Therapy (Non-Chemo)

Position Summary : The Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse
reports to the Director of Wound/Infusion. Th is position is
responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of
care and professional nursing practice; accountable for the
outcomes of nursing care delivered in the outpatient infusion
services setting. The Outpatient Infusion Registered Nurse will p
rovide safe, effective, appropriate and comprehensive infusion
services to non-oncology patients. The infusion nurse demonstrates
through patient care, both specialized knowledge and experience in
infusion therapy. Maintains evidence of training and continued
education in infusion specific opportunities .
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the
Monitor drug therapy and identify drug related problems such as
drug-drug interaction, adverse reactions, and inadequate therapy;
takes appropriate steps to resolve drug related problems.
Coordinates, provides, and ensures a continuum of care by
collaborating with other healthcare providers both within and
outside of the organization.
R esponsible for scheduling infusion therapy patient
Responsible for obtaining required documentation supporting
medical necessity, physician orders, insurance authorizations,
supporting lab results, and patient demographics.
Processes accurate and appropriate patient charges.
Prioritizes incoming phone calls and faxes from
patients/families and other medical personal as well as
Utilize Barcode Medication Verification
Educates the patient and family regarding the treatment plan
Manage vascular access devices
Utilize sterile technique daily while managing central venous
Draw blood routinely
Attends to any urgent patient care needs
Assists with inventory management, to include ordering medical
and pharmaceutical supplies for patient care.
Participates in orientation of new staff. Assists and supports
new team members as evidenced by observation and feedback.
Takes on extended job functions and is involved with team member
development or program development .
Other duties as assigned
Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), required.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred.
Clinical RN experience, required.
Infusion RN experience, preferred.
Insurance Authorization experience, preferred
Current RN licensure in good standing with the South Carolina
Board of Nursing (SCLLR), required.
American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic
Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed
with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar
days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a
provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are
approved by TH Organizational Development on a case by case basis).
BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.
Ability to works with patients, families, physicians and other
health care providers with a high level of customer service

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the
time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands,
fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15
to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up
to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently ,
and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly
to move objects.
The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the
essential functions of this job and will be measured by post offer
Physical Agility testing with a required “ Light-Medium ” rating to
verify ability to meet the requirement.
