Job Title: Software Engineer Intern FLSA Status: Nonexempt Department: Engineering Reports to: Director - Software Applications and Development GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE: An internship position in the area of software development in a challenging engineering environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Functional & Technical Skills Participates in design and development of various software applications. Completes well defined coding tasks. Assists with computer and/or electronic/imaging hardware setup. Assists with software maintenance and testing Develops documentation for products/processes released to customer REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must possess strong communication, computer, and problem-solving skills. Prefer strong software programming skills with experience in Visual C++/.Net and/or Qt C++/Linux and knowledge of Object-Oriented concepts Knowledge of relational database design and program is a plus Must be proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access Experience with PC hardware and software setup and configuration Education and/or Experience: The individual must be pursuing a BS degree in Software Engineering and shall have achieved junior status or higher. The individual shall also have completed the "core" coursework for his/her chosen discipline. Computer Skills: Solid computer skills consistent with the position requirements to include Microsoft Windows Office Suite. Language Skills: The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Mathematical Skills: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. The ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem in regression analysis, measures of central tendency and comparative labor statistics. Reasoning Ability: Ability to correctly make decisions involving issues/problems including when to escalate the problem to a more senior consultant.
