Job Description Baptist Health System - San Antonio TX is seeking a Medical Lab Technician for a job in San Antonio, Texas. Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Medical Lab Technician - Discipline: Allied Health Professional - Duration: Ongoing - 40 hours per week - Shift: 8 hours - Employment Type: Staff /n FULL-TIME NIGHTS /n The Medical Laboratory Technician tests all types of laboratory specimens for all age groups from neonates to geriatric patients; reviews and reports lab results; performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Other related duties as assigned. /n General Functions: /n /n - Processes and tests specimens for clinical studies /n - Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data /n - Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of laboratory information system /n - Processes blood and other body fluids. /n - Performs operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to include advanced troubleshooting. /n - Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity /n /n Department/Business Unit Functions: /n /n - Performs basic clerical functions /n - Assists in creating procedures /n - Assists in teaching employees or students /n - Relays, orders, takes inventory and stocks supplies /n - Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively /n - Maintains safe environment /n - Addresses patient population-specific needs /n - Participates in Performance Improvement activities /n MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical laboratory technicians, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003 MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years as a medical laboratory technician. PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency, e.g. ASCP, HHS, AMT.
