Veterinary Anesthesia Technician III - Scheduling Coordinator join
our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you'll collaborate with
the Anesthesia Technician IV Supervisor to direct the floor
operations of our Small Animal Anesthesia service, train and mentor
technicians, and maintain the highest standards of patient care.

Coordination: Direct the ongoing floor operations of the Small
Animal Anesthesia service. Delegate duties to anesthesia
technicians, residents, interns, and associates, ensuring smooth
and efficient operations.Training and Development: Onboard and
train new hire technicians and cross trainees. Provide additional
skills training for existing staff, fostering a culture of
continuous learning and improvement.Clinical Excellence: Assist in
the provision of clinical support to anesthesiologists in the
delivery and instruction primary patient care and anesthesia
services, playing a vital role in maintaining patient safety and
quality.Collaboration and Mentorship : Serve as a role model for
clinical and service excellence, guiding and mentoring technicians
while contributing to the education of future veterinary
professionals through consistent communication and organization of
a multidisciplinary team.Minimum Required QualificationsEducation:
Associate degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science,
animal science or related area or equivalent education and
experienceExperience: Six years of technical experience in
veterinary medicine, anesthesia, or related field.Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of veterinary equipment used
within a veterinary teaching hospital such as but not limited to
anesthesia machines, fluid pumps, multi-parameter monitoring
equipment, blood gas analyzers, CO2 monitors, anesthesia
ventilator, anesthesia monitoring equipment, defibrillators, and
other equipment required for anesthetic management of veterinary
patients. Must be able to work within time constraints and in a
crisis situation. Familiarization with injectable and inhalant
anesthesia. Strong animal handling skills and positioning of
patients for surgical procedures. Intermediate computer skills in
word processing, spreadsheets, and billing entry through electronic
medical record. Ability to communicate professionally, effectively,
and positively at all levels within the anesthesia service and the
Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital.A well-qualified candidate
will possess a certification/licensure as a Licensed Veterinary
Technician (LVT), Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Academy
of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists (AVTA), or Academy of
Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians (AVECCT).What

selected hires experience.Schedule: This position will require
working alternate shifts, holidays, weekend, and/or 'on call' duty
as needed. While on call, the technician will need to respond
within 30 minutes of an emergency call to report to duty.Please

cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work
and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct

Responsibilities Include:Clinical Service Coordination: Assigns
technicians and students to cases and coordinates the anesthesia
schedule. Oversees floor efficiency and answers service management
questions. Reviews anesthesia requests and accurately communicates
schedule and staffing information. Makes fair assignments based on
team competency and updates team members on changes. Provides
accurate reports to oncoming board runner and serves as a resource
for team members. Schedules team members to ensure timely
completion of duties, orients new team members, and demonstrates
and promotes professional practice.Anesthesia Duties: Performs and
assists faculty, residents, interns, and students with all
anesthesia patient care duties to maintain proper anesthetic levels
and analgesia. Assists with critical and intensive nursing care or
life-sustaining emergency care as needed. Provides physical
restraint for safe handling of patients. Records or assists
students in recording the patients physiological data, all
medications given, and any notes on anesthesia records.General
Duties: Maintains compliance for surveys and performs patient
safety checks. Directs supply requests and unresolved issues.
Operates and troubleshoots equipment, follows protocols for
supplies and broken equipment, and adheres to policies. Documents
controlled substances and ensures charges are correctly entered.
Restocks supplies and ensures proper equipment for patient safety.
Maintains and operates lab and monitoring equipment, arranges for
equipment maintenance, logs maintenance for inventory control, and
obtains quotes for repairs.Maintain Service Area: Maintains and
supervises a sanitary service area, cleans and repackages items for
sterilization, and ensures best practices for infectious disease
control. Oversees safety procedures for faculty, staff, and
students, uses proper PPE, and follows safety guidelines. Performs
regular cleaning of anesthesia areas and adheres to MSDS guidelines
for chemicals used.Teaching, Training & Clinical Research: Assists
residents and students with cases and teaching labs. Demonstrates
mastery of anesthesia skills and RECOVER training within six
months. Assists in clinical research and record keeping.
Participates in CE classes and local seminars as scheduling
permits.Required Training, Compliance, and Administrative
Procedures: Maintains current training and follows Texas A&M
and VMTH policies. Keeps certification or licensure up to date.
Submits time and leave requests promptly. Communicates via various
media according to protocol. Assists in policy revision and
preparation. Independently handles technician responsibilities and
maintains service documents. Ensures compliance with surveys and
provides emergency anesthesia call with supervision.Why Texas
