Southwestern University, located in Georgetown, has an opening
for a Registered Nurse in the Student Life / Counseling and Health
Center department. This position provides treatment of health care
needs and health maintenance for students of Southwestern
University. This is a 10-month, full-time, exempt position with
full benefits who reports to the Director of Counseling and Health
Primary Clinical Duties:
Provide daily clinical and administrative support in the treatment
of Southwestern University students at the on-campus Health
Collect and enter patient data including chief complaint, vital
signs, medical history, drug allergies and current medications into
the electronic health record.
Perform skilled nursing tasks including wound care, TB skin tests,
venipuncture, point-of-care testing, and all forms of medication
Communicate with students including direct patient education,
answering patient questions, telephone follow up, and telephone
triage as needed.
Collect and process laboratory specimens and order lab tests.
Manage inventory, order supplies and stock exam rooms and lab.
Manage and interpret vaccination records.
Manage on-campus biohazard waste disposal.
Collaborate with and assist contracted physicians, and submit their
monthly hours for payment.
Support front office staff as needed.
Collaborate with Counseling Center staff and other disciplines
involved in the delivery of total student care within the SU
community (e.g. Academic Success, Residential Life, Athletic
Use computer-based platforms including electronic health records,
billing and payments, laboratory orders and results, and Google
Participate in University-wide events as needed, including
ceremonies, special events and seminars.
Follow local, state and national guidelines, including nursing
practice standards, OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, and Southwestern
University Health Center policies and procedures.
Current State of Texas RN License with no restrictions.
Experience in primary health care or college health preferred.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Interest in young adult health and the ability to interact well
with college students.
Demonstrate professional qualities such as diplomacy,
dependability, strong work ethic, respect, flexibility, positive
attitude, and willingness to learn new skills.
