Job Description: Job Title: Engineering Specialist Technician, Mechanical/Controls FLSA Status: Exempt Department: Technical Service Group Reports to: Manager Inspection Systems, Testing and Support General Description / Purpose: The Engineering Specialist Technician, Mechanical/Controls is responsible for providing field support to multiple groups within the Engineering and Operations team. Assist with mechanical/software aptitude in developing, product and maintenance tests for various customers. Serve to focus efforts toward coordination and fulfillment of successful field operations tests while maintaining customer needs and minimizing interference with daily operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Functional & Technical Skills Apply technical knowledge of mechanical and controls skills to ensure maximum productivity and safe operation of specialized railroad/Loram equipment. Analyze and report system/equipment performance to identify, recommend, and implement maintenance changes and modifications that reduce life-cycle costs, improve machine productivity, and/or enhance safety of personnel or the environment. Analyze schematics, diagrams, programs and drawings for service and maintenance equipment. Responsible for diagnosing problems, estimating repair costs, ordering parts, minimizing re-work, proper use and care of tools and equipment, on-the-job safety practices, and proper job documentation including technical report writing. Strategic and Functional Design, develop, and deliver both classroom and on-the-job training for internal and external customers that incorporate electronic media presentations and hands-on simulations. Complete projects accurately to specifications within contract guidelines as set by Loram Technologies: maintenance time, quantity of repairs/labor efficiency and other measures. Provide instructions to operators during the full cycle of projects. Verify performance to specifications utilizing appropriate test equipment and software. Record and analyze data in various systems. Recommend modifications in test procedures, instrumentation, or setup, based on analysis of test results. Demonstrate individual discretion in decision-making when advising customers on product improvements and defining criteria for the safe operation of equipment. Contribute to building excellent company/customer working relationships BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES: Business Acumen High-Impact Communication Courageous Decision Making Intellectual Horsepower Planning and Organizing Values Based Leadership REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associates Degree in related field Experience: 3+ Years field, software & related experience and/or training. Experience in mechanical development, testing, and manufacturing. Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain Railroad Certifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: A working knowledge of railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or combination. Knowledge of or ability to quickly become familiar with Railroad products and services, particularly pertaining to maintenance of track and structures. Knowledge of computers and software with good word processing skills using Microsoft applications. Ability to maintain a flexible travel calendar. Ability and desire to maintain life-long education to stay current on mechanical and technological changes to improve efficiency. *5+ years combination of education and experience in software and/or mechanical development. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.
